In reply to Is Klonopin considered a potent benzo?, posted by mmcconathy on December 29, 2004, at 22:48:23
It's not a potent benzo. It has a longer half life than other benzos - 30 to 40 hours. Ativan has a half life of 9-24 hours.
Klonopin is the only benzo that can be used as a mood stabilizer for bipolar disorder. I take 4 mg of Klonopin a night as a mood stabilizer. It doesn't knock me out.
In some ways it does limit abuse because the effect lasts longer so patients are popping them like they might xanax.
