Slaying the Slamerino

Posted by Squiggles on November 6, 2004, at 9:42:00

Stopping and starting your drug may be
hard for a number of factors i don't understand.
Certainly, that is the case with lithium, even
just 1/3 of the dose for one day.

It's been particularly hard this time and i
don't understand the physiology of it. My
friend tells me it is a change in blood gases.

This morning is the first time I don't feel
really ill from it. The chest tightness, the
head heat, the sweating, the crushing sensation
in the heart? were difficult to bear stoically.

I am very optimistic for adjustment - i recall
my dr. saying when this happened some years ago,
that i should take the lithium with a benzo,
but i don't have any more fresh Xanax.

I am hoping to get some and to ask for diarrhea
advice. The last thing i want to do is complain
about the lithium, as the my dr. may get so
fed up that as he suggested, last time, maybe
put me on SSRIs or some new drugs (and screw
up the Synthroid balance etc.). Or the new
drug may not work and then going back on
lithium may not work - life is short for
such experimentation.

For the life of me i do not understand why
they don't lower the dose -- they must have
a reason - i hope it's a good one.

So this is a good start today for me. Do wish,
i knew what was going on with the blood gases
though.
