I am having trouble finding studies on what the potential interactions would be for a combination of L-Deprenyl/Selegeline 10 mg/day (which I currently take) & a low dose of generic Prozac (10 mg/day).
There are a few studies that briefly mention potential interactions but donīt say what that interaction is in the summary. Why would L-deprenyl interact with Prozac but not Lexapro or other SSRIs (or would it)? Does Prozac affect liver enzymes that metabloize L-Deprenyl of vice versa? Since, at the current time I order my meds online, generic Prozac is the only med available to me at a reasonable price. I am probably going to start taking 200 mg 5htp at bedtime for awhile with my Selegeline 10mg/day (at breakfast) to see if that will help any for my social phobia/mild depression. If that has no effect though, I might try some the Prozac 10 mg/Selegeline 10 mg combo assuming that there is no potential dangerous interaction there. The only thing the selegeline really does is that it lets me get more work done in the mornings while before I was half asleep until lunch. I am also able to cut down on caffeine, since the two together are a little much. The main side effect of L-Deprenyl is that my face is red all of the time, which I think could be high blood pressure (possibly exacerbated by caffeine- I take 100 mgs in the morning & drink a red bull (80 mg) at lunch. and also the dry mouth from it is awful).
I guess the bottom line is that simply increasing dopamine does not really help social phobia all that much, if at all. Serotonin must be the key to the whole thing especially since I canīt take any GABAergic dumb drugs like Klonopin & still perform at work.
