It doesn't HAVE to be in weeks or months. I was withdrawn from 5mg xanax/day using only ativan (ie NO xanax) in a psychiatric hospital, while supervised by a physician. While this was extremely unpleasant, I suffered no ill side-effects except what I know to be a strong psychological withdrawal. In other words I craved more xanax. But it is possible to do it in under a week, particularly with something as long-lasting as Klonopin. It will be uncomfortable, it is dependant on the dose you were on, and you will probably want more, but it is something you can definitely do. It helps to taper the med, and I'll tell you that alcohol will not be your friend right now. It may feel like it is helping, but you may find yourself with a much bigger problem later on. If you can, don't be afraid to go to a psych hospital or rehab to withdraw. Just make sure if you go, they aren't going to push that ridiculous AA/NA stuff on you.
