More Moclobemide

Posted by sabre on October 6, 2004, at 18:07:35

After ravenstorm, King Vultan and SLS-Scott suggested taking Moclobemide twice a day I tried it for the first time yesterday. Thanks for the information.

The previous day (after taking 150mg at 7am) I felt a generalised nervousness. Practised long slow breaths and this seemed to ease it a little.
Felt edgy talking to people and self-conscious. Didn't have any full panic attacks though.
I suspect it would work better if I was very depressed because everytime I started thinking how socially incompetent I was I didn't get caught in the usual downward negative spiral.

Had no real reprieves from social anxiety though and spent lunchtime listening to others wondering how the hell they could all be so relaxed telling stories and jokes while being the centre of attention. In the afternoon we had an in-service and one of my co-workers delivered an hour presentation after only being asked the afternoon before. I can't even imagine being able to stand mutely in front of people for two minutes.
I have been developing neck pain and headaches in the back of the head (occiput and temples) from the mid afternoon. It got a lot worse yesterday, so at 4:30 I took another 150mg and a pain killer. The pain suddenly eased around 7:30 and started to feel happy and giggly again.

Had no troubles getting to sleep but woke a couple of times to a light going on and someone getting up. Fell asleep ok. I had noticed slight nausea however the second dose intensified this and by morning I had another headache and feeling of pressure in the back of the head.

After another dose at 7am, the headache has partially eased at close to 9am.

I have also noticed mild palpitations eased by burping. I think the increased dosage aggravates this. There ar a few postings about people suffering this problem with anxiety, GERD and certain drugs. I'm not worried.

Still too early to call on the effectiveness of the drug. If I had to guess from what I feel now, I think the drug might be useful in helping to control panic but I'm dubious about social anxiety. Just hope the headaches start to ease as I read Moclobemide can sometimes help but sometimes aggravate migraine.

PS Herve, you said you suffer an intense physical anxiety. Me too. I think that's why the beta blockers were so useful initially. Sometimes just thinking about something slightly anxiety provoking or exciting can make my adrenals flood adrenalin into the body - not good.
