withdrawal

Posted by Simili on September 20, 2004, at 10:13:09

The withdrawal symptoms are awful. After taking 150 mg for 3 years I had no problem moving to 75 mg for a week, but when I went down to 37.5 mg I experienced the lightheadedness, vertigo, fatigue, etc., but most disturbing was (is) a "whooshing" sound in my head. My head feels like a wind tunnel. Anyway, I went back up to 75 mg. for a month, then tried again with the same results. So I alternated 75 mg with 37.5 mg and slowly came off the stuff that way over several months. The withdrawal symptoms got better but never left me completely. It has been 2.5 months of being off the stuff and I still have that whooshing sound in my head. I wonder if I will have to live like this for the rest of my life. I have never been a addict before; it is just an awful feeling to be a slave to a drug. This stuff is a nightmare and NEVER AGAIN will I take Effexor! I had no such symptoms when I took a tri-cyclic many years ago. (Effexor is one of the new breed of antidepressant known as an SSRI.) Not worth it, no, no, no... Never again.
