Hi appadoo, I have no experience with Catapres (clonidine) or Tenex (guanfacine). They are central noradrenergic agonists at presynaptic receptors, resulting in decreased sympathetic output over time. They are FDA-approved to treat hypertension in adults.

Your question, "...is whether guanfacine effects the norepinephrine in a more effective way than your typcal SNRIs". Unlike SNRIs, Tenex and other antihypertensives do not have an effect on attention. However, some unapproved uses for Tenex include treatment of TS, tics, ADHD and aggressive behavior. Unfortunately, the studies done in this area indicate only modest efficacy in ADHD.

You may be interested in researching the potential of alpha blockers like Hytrin, Minipress, Cardura and Ismelin. Drugs in this category prevent the release of norepinephrine from nerve terminals in response to sympathetic stimulation. Hence they relax and dilate the blood vessels.

Your other question, "By the way i combine it with concerta which seems from experience to start having an effect later in the afternoon is this common?" I've noticed this effect too. I think the reason is that we are normally more alert and awake in the afternoon.

I hope this helps. Take care.
