hello chess, chemist here. i can comment on a few of the items below, and i am certain others will fill in the missing links.....

> Anyone taken Xanax XR at bedtime?

i have taken the immediate release form (as i do currently, throughout the day) at bedtime, not the XR. however - and this is just from my PDR, cribbing - the manufacturer of both forms notes that peak plasma levels are reached in 1 to 2 hours. i would expect that the IR/XR would thus behave similarly if taken at bedtime, although the enhanced half-life of the XR would probably manifest as a bit of grogginessupon wakening, although that is my opinion only.

again, i cannot answer from personal experience, but given the longer half-live, i would suspect that the XR would exhibit this effect in the a.m. more than the IR form would on an equivalent dose basis.

again, i cannot compare xanax XR with klonopin IR, as you request. i can compare xanax IR and klonopin IR, and report that i am less groggy with xanax than with klonopin. i want to add that the klonopin grogginess did abate somewhat over time, and i found it to be dose-dependent and not overwhelming in the 0.5 to 1 mg range.

there are data that indicate that antidepressant properties are associated with alprazolam (and at least one other drug). based upon the posts i have read concerning xanax XR, it appears that the single-dosing is effective if your anxiety/panic are managed by that dose. the half-life is extended, but if the amount available to do the job is not present late in the day, you will find yourself needing to augment at that time. it is very likely dependent upon the individual and the level of anxiety in addition to concurrent meds being taken. all the best, chemist
