ANTICHOLINERGICS act as psychostimulants ......

Posted by aazospiro on July 31, 2004, at 18:13:30

.......in schizophrenics?? I read numerous articles concerning abuse of specific anticholinergic substances used in parkinsons disease by schizophrenics. Apparently produces psychostimulant effects in this population??

Any comments on this.. Seems very strange. Only explanation I can come up with is a secondary central release of DA.....

Makes me wonder if these medications would produce calming + focusing effects in ADHD/ADD individuals.

All comments welcome.
