med questions... again

Posted by scrdykat on June 10, 2004, at 10:28:03

Hi...
I'm still struggling with trying to understand what's going on with my med regimen. I cannot get ahold of my doc to go over my concerns and am thinking of switching anyways, shes pretty flakey. Anyways, does anyone know if Effexor XR and a Lamictal/Seroquel combo counter-affect each other? From what I understand, Effexor prevents the re-uptake of serotonin and nor-epinephrine. Looking at the prescribing info for the other two, Seroquel sounds to be limiting serotonin, and Lamictal limiting dopamine, which if thats the case, why take both? Doesn't nor-epinephrine have to do with dopamine, in some way? And I'm wondering how Xanax plays into the whole mix because it also seems that with mood stablizers, anti-anxiety would have no effect. My doc is very vague when I ask these questions and Im running out of options to find out more. I can only get so much out of prescribing infos as I'm not a pharmacist, yet...
If anyone knows anything at all, please help me understand better. I'm trying on my own, my doc, actually shes a nurse practitioner really doesnt seem to be much help other than a pill dispenser.
