It can take up to five weeks (unfortunately). The side effects often get better with time, but it depends on the person.
If it's any consolation, I think Prozac has the best side effect profile (for most people) of all the SSRI's. It was the only one I could tolerate, and you rarely see threads complaining about how badly Prozac messed the poster up--as you do with some OTHER drugs I could name...
It's also a pretty effective AD, and appears to be comparable to the tricyclics for many people. The reason it isn't prescribed more is because it's generic. I haven't yet met a psychiatrist who wasn't totally in thrall to his drug reps!
