Am I doomed to treatment resistance?

Posted by tamdon on May 3, 2004, at 14:17:14

Hi chemist, could you explain to me why Nardil abruptly stopped working for me after I started the Atkins diet. I'd had no side effects, wasn't hungry and had begun to remit in only 10 days. I was much better than I had beeen in 5 and half years. I could think straight and make decisions. Unfortunately, after atttempting the initial phase of atkins, I literally collapsed. My legs were so weak, I had to grab furniture to get around and the low blood pressure became insufferable. I quit the diet after three day, but I lost most of the positive benefits of the Nardil! Except for a new side effect of carb craving and another new one ear ringing. I decided to go off all together. But right now I am desperately in need of something that work at least as well on my mood and motivation as well. At first the doc suggested effexor, wellbutrin and vivactil because I was concerned about weight gain, for health and cosmetic reasons. I am 170 pounds on a 5'1" frame and I have lose weight as well as my depression. I said no, because I wouldn't be able to sleep. I had taking effexor back in 98 and I remember not being able to sleep. I am really at a loss. He also suggest Parnate.. I must confess there is one thing that I have remitted on completely... a combination of elavil and zoloft in the very beginning of my drug treatment in 1998. I worked, but I wanted off of the elavil for weight gain. Yes, I highly regret the decision, I made. But the combo together no long works and the elavil also cause extreme constipation, dry mouth and a swollen abdomen. I have been going thru this for six years. Six years of my life wasted in the pursuit of the right drugs. Sometimes, I wish I had never heard of antidepressants. But here I am in 2004 till looking. Oh, he also suggested parnate, but I here there is an even greater risk of a hypertensive crisis.
