> Day 6 I will be taking 1mg of Xanax t.i.d. and no more K. Been on K for years and just want to make sure that this is corrrect. I trust my pdoc but just wanted to know if anyone else out there has made this kind of transition- thanks
> snapperhi snapper, chemist here. klonopin is a typical 1,4-benzodiazepine, while xanax is a derivative, namely a triazolobenzodiazepine. every doctor seems to think that xanax fits into the same class as the 1,4-benzos (lorazepam, diazepam, etc.). not true. xanax- in addition to anxiolytic effects - has antidepressant qualities. given the length of time you have been on klonopin, a slower taper on that med and a more aggresive titration of xanax is called for. the two drugs are *not* hitting the same receptors with the same binding affinities. take it slow, let me know how it goes....best, chemist
