Hi MsMilly,

I'm on Lexapro for anxiety and it has been very helpful. However, in my experience it takes a while to take effect and can increase your anxiety for the first few days that you take it. Also, it seems that low doses of Lexapro work well for depression but larger doses are needed for anxiety.

Keep in mind that you might react to the med very differently than I have. It could turn out that 10 mgs does wonders for your anxiety and you never experience any side effects other than headaches.

I haven't tried Effexor, but worry about it because my father took it for a month and had a horrible time coming off of it. He said he had "brain zaps" that lasted for several days. I don't think the withdrawl from Lexapro is quite that bad.

I suggest giving Lexapro a chance. Try it for 5 weeks and see if you don't notice a difference in your anxiety. I hope this information is useful.

K.
