I've taken both nortriptyline and desipramine and don't think desipramine is the best choice for anxiety, as it tends to stimulate beta adrenergic receptors--this is the opposite of the mild anti-anxiety effects beta blockers can have. Nortriptyline is much better on anxiety, but I'm concerned about your report of its effect on your heart. FWIW, desipramine caused tachycardia for me and increased my heart rate into the 90's, but I found this to be of no real consequence.
