hey taintedangel,
sorry to hear what you're going through. it sounds a lot like my past year. i'm in college, too, and i had a similar experience with meds making my symptoms worse. what bookgurl said about leaving school might actually be a good idea. i tried twice to keep going and keep up with school, and both times, i ended up in the hospital and then on medical leave from university, anyway. if you think you're getting worse and you can't get better in your present circumstances, then it's probably better to cut your losses and get out now before things get worse. the thought of having to leave school and go back home and miss activities and fun with friends upset me so much that i thought it was better to just try to gut it out at school, but the truth is that i wasn't enjoying any of those things, anyway. i think if i'd decided on a medical leave sooner, i could have avoided those two hospital stays. looking back, i don't think i could have gotten better while staying in school, but for me, school was part of what was causing my mood problems. once i was away and in intensive treatment at home, i was able to get better, but it took trials with about 25 different meds and 3 times a week therapy, treatment i probably couldn't have complied with if i had all my usual schoolwork and other commitments to worry about. the time off probably saved my life, and i'm back at school this semester.

of course, the situation is a little different for you since the term is at least half over; the more work you've put in, the harder it is to leave. but like bookgurl said, if you're doing poorly in your classes, it's better to have a leave of absence on your record than a semester's worth of bad grades. a leave of absence can mean anything, especially a medical leave. no one has to know why, and when people look at your transcript, they won't know anything except that you, like many other students, had medical problems that precluded the possibility of staying in school for the term. your bad grades get erased, and you can start over when you feel well enough to come back to school.
i don't know if this helps... it's just an extension of what bookgurl already said. but things will get better, they really will. you're in my thoughts.
