the general side effects are CNS overstimulation ones.
personally, I had mild insomnia or just needed a little less sleep in the beginning. you might have an amphetamine type activation in the beginning [euphoria, edginess, jittery}. more tolerant people have less of one. curbed appetite and irritability are common. a lot of these go away in a couple of weeks. over time the side effects get better, and in about 2 months after a certain doseage you should figure that it will be as good as it gets. that's just a general idea though. the timeline may be different for you. however, certain side effects are immediate at first, so if you find them bothersome, you have to give your body some more time to see if the degree remains the same or if things get better gradually which is what happens for many.
If it is agitating over the long term, then it's probably not for you. start at 150 and keep it there for a good month or two. don't jump up to 300 immediately. many doctors will let you do 150mg for 4 days or a week then you shoot str8 up to 300mg. some people don't need that or can not handle leaping that quick.
unless your doctor thinks you are in serious need, start at 150. my current pdoc likes the low dose approach and then add on.
you may find you need to go to 300, and after being on 300 a while you may find you need to drop back to 150.
xl version is more more smooth than SR i think. it's far more convenient than twice a day dosing.
I have no trouble with dosing at morning and night, but some people need to dose right after the 8 hour minimum after the first dose, so they don't have trouble sleeping.
Never take too much wellbutrin at once or your pills too close together in time in order to make up for a dose.
