Extended Release Meds

Posted by puravida on March 21, 2004, at 23:42:39

Does anyone have any experience with taking both the extended release version of a med and the "regular" version of the same med? Could you tell any difference? Were there different side effects? Did the same dosage of each work the same?

I was taking the extended release of both wellbutrin and effexor - switched docs and have discovered I've been taking the regular versions. Have switched back to Wellbutrin SR but am still taking Effexor, not XR. The Wellbutrin SR, same dose, seems to work better for me, despite the doc saying it was pretty much the same. I'm thinking about switching back to Effexor XR but I had some jaw cleching before that I haven't had this time - wondering if I should just raise my dose of the regular Effexor.

My Dr will switch me if I want, but since he doesn't see much difference, I wanted to get some input from others. I can't believe that it is entirely a marketing/patent issue - the formula must be different enough to work differently in some ways...

Thanks for any info -
