I had terrible stomach aches from Ritalin before switching to Adderall. I can't remember if I received them some months after starting Ritalin or I simply got fed up with them after awhile.

I think they came on a few months into things. With all the stimulants, I've noticed prolonged use (4-6+ months) seem to make the med cause more side effets for me, unless I switch to a different stimulant for awhile before returning to it.

I preferred Adderall. I think Ritalin was great at making me feel compulsive over my schoolwork, but it was too excessive-- I felt dull, boring and possibly a little dysphoric (especially on the come down). I just switched back to it today, from Desoxyn, since I had been on the novel med for a year and my body gets annoyed at getting the same stim for that long--

it's common to change stimulants after prolonged (4-6+) use.

It's healthier, in my opinion, and many doctors practice what I call "stimulant rotation."

I compare it to rotating your tires-- you're using the same tires (or receptors), but they're getting less worn out in the places they've been riding along in your brain the most.

You might experience a difference in Adderall XR, but that's just a novel idea-- docs seem to assume the stuff is similiar to Concerta, even though all it does is re-dose you after four hours with 1/2 the medication, so it's just like taking two doses divided by four hours. Although the capsule form may reduce stomach upset, you'd have to refer to the package insert of it and compare this effect to Adderall IR's.

Correct me if I'm over-simplifying the pharmokinetics here. XR may help rebound only because it's a virtual guarantee you'll receive another dose after four hours. And who gets rebound when you're re-dosing after four hours? Anyone who doesn't have insurance shouldn't bother with it, and work with their doc to take Adderall IR generic in a way that works best for them.

Are you sure it's not simply sour stomach? That's when your pH levels are off and the amphetamines commonly cause this. If your stomach is acidic, your body may be confusing it as a kind of pain.

Some doctors are okay with advising you to take Zantac 2x/day or so to relieve this common side effect of the stims, but please remember to call your doctor to explain your symptoms first before even mentioning this.

Any acid reducer, including baking soda, will increase the effect of an amphetamine-- do not take OTC medicines without first consulting your doc, as your dose and other variables need to be considered first by him or her.

But I did receive a terribly acidic stomach when I switched to Desoxyn at first, and would take Zantac or baking soda to releive it. After a few months, it seemed to go away. I would say if your doc is okay with it, and your med is working, you can give it a shot.

But maybe Adderall XR has fewer incidents of stomach upset? It's hard to determine these things, but it seems like XR is just a means of competing with Concerta without the sohpistication of pulse dosing.

I've never actually tried the long-acting stims, except for the 50 year old Dexedrine Spansules, which barely did anything at all even at 50mg. I was taking Desoxyn, and they stopped making the long-acting form in 2000.

Once I stabalize at the right dose of Adderall, I may take it XR for a month and see if there's a difference, but I'm assuming it just makes it more convenient--

and we all know that ADDers are bad at sticking to stimulant compliance 100%, although due to school I have to say I've been farely good about taking my meds provided I'm challenging myself with my courses.

I dose Adderall with my B-100 and Iron pills for my vitamin deficiencies (no, I did get blood work done to prove this, I'm not some nut that doesn't realize these are the two most toxic supplements you can take)
