FWIW just be sure you are aware of it's addictive properties- for some it is a 'lifesaver' there is much more I could say re: benzos etc but I don't want to bore you -if you have any ?'s feel free to ask! I don't claim to have all the answers but I may be able to help!
I just checked out dictionary.com and it said that narcotics are addictive drugs that reduce pain and alter mood and behavior, and usually induce sleep or stupor. I guess Xanax is a narcotic. I always thought of pain killers like opiates.
