Effexor can be very stimulating when you first start it, so yes, what you are feeling could very well be side effects. Like Sad Panda said, can you take a benzo to help calm you down, such as Xanax or Klonopin...maybe get your doctor to prescribe you something while you are titrating up your dosage?
