Hi Mark,
Your pdoc is smart not to put you on Xanax, Lorazepam or Valium...they all have a reputation for not mixing well with alcohol.
I'm sorry that the Lex isn't working out for you. I forget how much you're taking, but in my experience 10 mgs isn't enough to help with anxiety. I had to increase to 15 mgs...maybe you should trying upping your dose before giving up.
Prozac is said to help anxiety (although, like Lexapro, it can increase your anxiety for the first few weeks) but it might be worth a try. I'm not a huge fan of Paxil, but some people really like it for panic attacks/anxiety. Celexa and Effexor are others you could look in to.
Anxiety/Panic is awful to live with. I hope you find a solution that works for you.
