My understanding is that desipramine is a histamine and therefore has a drying effect in the nasal area causing sleepiness and weight gain. Wellbutrin by itself curved my appetite but did not give me the AD effect. As far as the cardiac issue, it is probably that in some people desipramine may cause heart palpation. Also, my pdoc had me take blood tests every so often to make sure that the desipramine level in my blood was below a maximum amount and not toxic. Good luck to you in what ever you decide. There are so many ADs to choose from. The trick is to find the right one or more often the right ones (combo).

Thanks for answering. Does desipramine always cause weight gain or can it also cause weight loss? I know that Wellbutrin can go either way. Wellbutrin curbs my appetite, but I haven't noticed any significant weight loss because I'm taking this med.
