wow. i had completely forgotten about atarax. when i was a teenager, i used to pop atarax like candy for hives. i always felt itchy and "crawly" feeling from nerves. i remember it being a bit sedating, like benedryl. i was still nervous, but at least it kept me from scratching myself bloody. this link says that it's not meant for long term use. i took it for at least a few years, though, and didn't have any trouble coming off it. good luck.
