According to Dr. Mark Hutto of Atlanta, who gives both ECT and TMS, he thinks it unlikely that TMS will help if ECT has not- unlikely, but not impossible. Are you finding that medications work better even though the ECT was not very helpful? And have you tried the full range of medications for BP? (you probably have).
It just comes to mind that the recent finding of a new type of MRI being studied at the McLean Brain Imaging Center in Boston to find out more about the brain in bipolar disease had the unexpected finding of lifting the depression of about 80% of the patients they were studying might be worth your looking into. It actually is a type of TMS, but with two, rather than one. electromagnetic coils, and only about 1/200th of the current used in standard TMS. Having had successful experiences with TMS with PTSD-related depression myself, I am very interested in it, and am also aware that the doctors who are studying and using it still know very little about it. It might be worth a call to McLean.
