I can say that I have a generally postive feedback in using this drug (moclobemide). Being in Australia the drug is obtainable quite easily, and have been on it in the past for up to 2 years 850mg......with very minimal side effects, very easy to deal with after a couple of months and nowhere near the bad effects i hear of other drugs.
I gained confidence, postive and happy attitute, very motivated.......and basically re-vitalised.

After 2 years i was happy enough to slowly come off them (take your time with this procedure, as suicidal thoughts are overwhelming as i found out by going cold turkey at one stage). Also I was not getting much of an effect after 2 years, and i think i was actually quite normal.

Sexual arrousal was an issue as it seemed to make me a bit manic, but i feel with a mood stabiliser this will be solved. I am again contemplating going back on them, while being drug free for about 4years (minus 2 relapses that i got thru with CBT and group therapy). Also some pretty bad times with relationship and also studying at University, while the next year having a son......I think i did ok without medication during that time.
I have lately been cycling alot with moods, lasting 3 days on/off more towards the depressed side of bipolar, but i can control it. It has just become annoying as i feel these 3 day cycles are too much to deal with every week.
I'd recommend moclobemide, and effects seem to start about 4-6weeks into it, increasing from 150mg to 300mg a few days later......effects will be noticed around 450-650mg (in my case).
It seemed to elleviate paranoid thoughts, depression, social phobia, and anxiety....and I also stopped smoking after 2 years and attribute it to that.
I wasn't used to feeling good those 2 years of my life and i think i intentionally abused it.....now i realise i was one of the lucky ones and should have used the time to better my life.
I have noticed people seem to relapse on the drug usually after 4years if they come off of it, but again it is only what happened to me and reports i've read.

I think a support group is a very good idea as well, and it has helped me greatly. I was lucky enough to join a CBT group and that evolved into a support structure with a leading psychiatric nurse who is very knowlegable, and our group (many members come and go) has become a good insight for each other.
