Bravery drug--anti-anxiety effect

Posted by LostBoyinNC34 on November 22, 2003, at 21:08:04

Before I went on testosterone I had nearly constant chest pain and tightness and took a lot of klonopin to help deal with this muscle tension/anxiety problem. Which was a double edged sword as the klonopin is sedating and worsened my depression while relaxing my muscles and combatting the anxiety. It also dulled my already dulled cognition. I didnt have actual panic attacks or anything, just a lot of generalized anxiety and muscle tension problems, which led to worsened high blood pressure problems.

Strangely, I noticed within 30 minutes of putting on my first Androgel, I felt much braver and more relaxed. Like my whole body was released from a tight muscle spasm or something. Much like I used to feel before I had such severe mental illness problems. Like stress just glided off me and like I said...I felt braver, calmer and more relaxed. The chest pain and tightness has gone away and Ive gotten off the klonopin completely. For such a stimulating drug as testosterone, I find this odd or strange in a way.

I believe that a good way to combat severe anxiety in men particularly, is to develop "bravery drugs" such as testosterone. Its likely that men who feel overly stressed or have anxiety problems have low or borderline low levels of testosterone, which could lead to feelings of fear, anxiety and other muscle related problems.

I wasnt expecting this strong anti-anxiety effect or "bravery" effect from the testosterone. I was only expecting a stimulant like antidepressant effect. I find this bravery effect makes me more outgoing, more assertive and decisive...more like I used to feel.

I would encourage other males, especially those 30 and over who have problems feeling overly stressed, generalized anxiety and severe depression to get formally screened for low or borderline low levels of testosterone.

Eric
