Medication Suggestions Anyone?

Posted by Zarah78 on October 12, 2003, at 23:01:36

Hello all. I'm new to these things, so please, bear with me. (I think I originally posted this on the wrong board -- oops, sorry.) 8P

That said, it has been 7 months since I had a miscarriage. I am 25 and took Prozac for depression for about a year when I was 22--weight gain of 35# and some off-the-wall attitude changes caused me to wean myself off on doc's advisement. Since then, I've been dealing with the depressional "swings" sans medication. Since the miscarriage, I've had increasing trouble with my depression and even a change in symptoms -- I previously went through more "hiding from the world" swings, now having what I can only call a "numbness" combined with all-out bitchiness. The symptoms lessen around the time of my menstruation, but never go away entirely and return after the week is done. I've also noticed a near complete loss in libido, which (on top of other issues) has caused increased tension in my relationship.

I've read a few of the postings here regarding drugs like Paxil which have caused weight gain and heard commercials that claim others can cause 'sexual side effects'. My new doc is ... rather fresh off the farm and I seem to have to do all research myself (most likely due to a long medical history of allergic response to multiple antibiotics). I have not lost much of the weight since going off of Prozac and seem to be addicted to 'comfort foods'. Does anyone have suggestions to what I might take that may restore my libido and help me lose the weight? (I've been exercising and trying to eat better, but I seem to be stuck now.) I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Zarah78

PS -- I have not yet seen a psychiatric pro, but am seriously considering it if I can not get my issues straightened out on my own. The docs I have seen thus far have been a DO and general practitioner.
