opiates for depression

Posted by Louisemr on September 24, 2003, at 12:40:42

I take methadone for resistant depression and I thank God for the open mind of my doctor. I need to find info on studies supporting this practice. I know it hase saved my life. No meds (of which there has been over 30) and ECT did not help, neither did hospitalization. I do not get high and I certainly did opiates and other drugs enough to know the difference. It simply brings me up to a level close to normal. If I take too much I don't get euphoric, just tired so it is self-regulating. I think better, I am more stable emotionally and intellectually, my relationship is better, I can now make plans because I am more confident that I will feel the same way in an hour day or week, I can go to the store. I can do the dishes, I shower again, I bruch my teeth and hair. I don't know why it works but I will discuss it with anyone with questions but I do need information desparately. My doctor needs info to support his decision to the pharmacy board and it is also something more providers and patients need to see as a viable option if not a last resort.
