My advice for a fast acting and powerful drug that has a very high probability of oblitereating your depression is Parnate. MAOI's demand certain dietary restrictions but, you can read all about their easily avoided dangers on your own. Other meds like the SSRIs and such tend to get you mostly better butleave you with blunted emotions and other subtle but persistant side effects plus "poop-out". Drug combo's (cocktails) seem to be the best way to go, but for a single drug trial, go with Parnate, and go to a high dose (120mg) if it doesn't work at normal levels. My doctor is head of psychiatry at the Cleveland Clinic and he says that the MAOI's are simply the best drugs in existance for depression. For good info on this perplexing condition read "The Noonday Demon:An Atlas of Depression" by Andrew Solomon (its actually entertaining). You'll be fine, just remember that a major symptom of the disorder is a strong feeling that you'll never recover, this must be rationally denied as you systematically act to eliminate your depression.
