EffexorXR withdrawal

Posted by newtoyou on August 20, 2003, at 23:38:04

I've been taking various antidepressants for 11yrs. as prescribed by my psychiatrist. A rheumatologist prescribed EffexorXR 150mg for fibromyalgia symptoms as well as ambien for sleep. My psych. was not supportive of this. For the first time in my years of treatment I was completely depression free, unfortunately after 1yr. my BP became very high, not brought down by antihypertensives, I was concerned about having a stroke, weaned off against the advice of my rheumotologist. It took me from Oct., to Feb. to wean off, it involved a hospitalization and the end of the tapering because I was so horridly depressed and the withdrawal symptoms were unrelenting, took until June to feel somewhat human. Haven't had similar results for antidepressant effect since but I don't ever want to feel that badly again (someone likened it to being worse than heroin withdrawal).
