opiates for depression?

I noticed, after taking a Percocet, that my depression lifted slightly. Does anyone know anything about this? Do other people experience depression relief from opiates?
I didn't experience the "usual" effects from the Percocet, like feeling "high," spacey, "zoned, "out of it," or tired. It just sort of made me feel normal.
Is there any validity to this?
