Re: Paxil and children

I researched a little and came up with a few things.
1. Children and teenagers already taking Paxil should not suddenly stop the pills, the FDA stressed. Some doctors may feel the drug is helping enough to keep a particular patient on the drug, which the FDA warning doesn't forbid.
2. The company is seeking FDA approval to sell Paxil to treat another illness, obsessive-compulsive disorder, in children. Rhyne said studies found no sign that giving the drug to those patients triggered suicidal thoughts. That is what my son is taking the drug for. He is not being treated for depression(therefore giving him the approved drug Prozac would do no good because that is approved for depression)

I will call his pdoc tomorrow. I knew about the report but I really am not sure if they "prohibit" Paxil for kids. I need to refill or change it anyway so I guess I will find out this week. The last thing a parent wants is a kid on meds. for any amount of time, nothing is a cure all, I wish I wasn't a lifer on meds but I've come to realize I need them(Topamax/Effexor). Maybe because he's started young he won't, who knows.
