Its worth getting checked out if you are a refractorily depressed male, particularly if you are over thirty. Oftentimes your family doctor can order the testosterone test, there is no need to go to a specialist endocrinologist for the free testosterone level test.

Other good tests for any refractorily depressed person is to get blood plasma cortisol levels checked, to rule out high cortisol (Cushing's disease). And an overnight sleep study is worth a shot if you are refractory depressed, this rules out obstructive sleep apnea which can be a underlying cause of depression/anxiety.
