inversine for bipolars

Posted by avid abulia on June 13, 2003, at 14:36:39

does anyone have any experience taking the nicotinic ACh antagonist mecamylamine (Inversine) for bipolar disorder? i am taking 2.5mg twice daily (for tourette`s syndrome) and it seems to have an antidepressant effect upon me... (it is more useful in touretters with high depression scores than for less depressed ticcers) and there are studies being done regarding possible utility in bipolar disorder as well (one effect of long-term antidepressant treatment is a down-regulation of nACh receptors, but Inversine only effects central and ganglionic nACh receptors without raising catecholamine/indolamine levels, so it reduces cortisol secretion rather than leaving it at baseline levels after an initial peak).
