Klonopin/Parnate Questions For the Experts

Posted by cubbybear on May 24, 2003, at 1:38:39

I'm presently taking 40 mg. Parnate after about 2-1/2 months and doing well with it; while tapering off Klonopin very slowly, with current dose of 2.5 mg/day, which I started taking last July when depression was bad, in order to help me sleep. Depression is now in remission and I'd like to stop taking the Klonopin. I'm resigned to having to take Parnate every day for the rest of my life, but I don't want to be dependent on a benzo any longer, if at all possible.
My Only difficulty now is (tolerable) insomnia. My questions are these:

1) To perhaps minimize the insomnia, I guess I could also decrease the dose of Parnate. But I'm a bit leery of going to 30 mg. at this point,. So---
If I want to decrease the dosage of Parnate to--let's say -- 35 mg./ day but am not supposed to cut these pills in half, would it make sense to alternate 40 mg. one day with 30 mg. the next? (I'm not a math scholar).
2) Easier question: What is the equivalent amount of Klonopin to .5 mg of Xanax?
