trileptal help

Posted by e503 on April 5, 2003, at 14:38:43

my son (16 years old) had to go off tegretol about 10 weeks ago because he had a low white blood count. He is autistic and bipolar and had been on it pretty successfully for a few years. Started him on trileptal at that time. Now, about 10 weeks later, we just moved him up to 2400 mg./day. The reason is because he is sooo obsessive and agitated. I have heard that with some people with increases in dosage they get "irritated, agitated, etc."and that eventually it (the agitation) goes away. I am very worried about ben, as he seems pretty miserable to me. Has anyone ever had this experience --- that trileptal can make his agitation worse? I am so unsure if I should just give it a week or so to see if it helps at this dose. Any ideas? I am at wit's end.
