I just started taking Adrafinil, hopefully over time it could help me out like Modafinil did for him lathough it's obviously going to take a little longer for me. Have you had any experiences with either drugs? I did go through a search and read a few user comments but I don't recall if you commented at all. Thanks again for taking the time to reply to my messages. I really appreciate it.

Sorry to butt in...
This reporter is doing a disservice by making modafinil out to be something it's not. The US government has done studies on provigil to see if servicemen can go longer without sleep, but that is NOT what it's prescribed for. The reporter says it's a narcolepsy drug, but then goes ahead and tests it out for his lack of sleep. This is really not what modafinil should be taken for at all. The cure for a better night's sleep is to get more sleep, not take a drug. IF you have problems with insomnia, that's something else, and can be treated by other means. Insomnia and not getting enough sleep can be, and often are, two very different things and are treated in different ways. No doctor would prescribe somebody Provigil if they said they weren't getting as many hours of sleep a night as they should. A careful medical and psych history would be taken, and then medically treated.

Provigil has been found to help people with attentional problems like ADHD, and for depression, but these are what they call off-label uses. In other words, doctors can prescribe it for whatever they want, but with full knowledge that they are doing so. No double-blind placebo studies have been done for what they might be prescribing it for, and the FDA has not approved it for anything except what it specifically enumerates.

As far as your symptoms go, I would suggest seeking out a specialist in attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The symptoms you describe could very well be treated medically (i.e, with drugs). Everyone does suffer from occasional memory loss, but yours is more marked (and not just in your own opinion), and there is no reason for you to continue to suffer. The problem with ADHD patients is the particular way their brain is wired, and the meds do help a lot. By the way, I am on Provigil, and it has really helped my attentional problems and my depression. If you have any other questions, please ask, but DO look up more on modafinil/Provigil on the search function that this site offers. The box is above, a few lines underneath the green box on the pages that list all the threads.

Best of luck,
