amitriptlyn and paxil and clonidine

my husband had severe paxil withdrawal symptoms that were relieved with clonidine. Now he has gone back to his dr and now they put him on amatriptlyn, he ahs severe back pain and on many pain relievers and can't get any sleep. My question, will the amitriptlyn be the same as paxil that he had a bad readtion to? Will it ease the side effects of paxil withdrawal? will he still need the clonidine?
