glad to hear you are doing so well...
I began Parnate the second I heard about the possible discontinuation of Nardil (I think it was the last week of November)
I began my first dose of Parnate about 12(?) HOURS after my last dose of Nardil (30mg--half of what I normally took...cause that was all I had at the time)
I have never had problems with the MAOIs, I have never had a hypertensive reaction, and I have never changed my diet...
I began to research hypertensive reactions, and thought my lack of a response to pressor amines/and other pressors was due to the beta-blocker Inderal I was taking daily (primarily for a tremmor)...In a strange twist, my tremor stopped AFTER I began Parnate, and I discontinued the inderal...even more strange is that I now realize that the beta blocker probably had very little to do with "protection" against a hypertensive crisis, since I have yet to have any type of reaction (Im NOT on a maoi diet, I have even taken pseudofed, and nasal sprays)
I liken hypertensive episodes to serotonin syndrome...like serotonin syndrome, hypertensive episodes are rare, and if they do occur, they are typically mild.
*most people who have a hypertensive episode have a pre-existing history of hypertension
*some hypertensive episodes are due to other diseases that cause hypertension like renovascular disease, renal parenchymal disease, and pheochromocytoma. Also, more people have hypertensive reactions to cocaine and amphetamines, withdraw from antihypertensive drugs, and collagen vascular diseases than do MAOIs
