I think the different racemic salts (sulfate and aspartate) are supposed to be absorbed at a different rate, resulting in a smoother onset and wear off.

As far as anyone noticing a difference, I don't think a dl-amphetamine sulfate only tablet is available. The only choices are d-amphetamine sulfate (Dextrostat, Dexedrine) or dl-amphetamine sulfate + dl-amphetamine aspartate (as Adderall).
