I'm a little confused -- it's perfectly legal in Texas to get a 3-month prescription for Schedule II meds. I get a triplicate prescription for Adderall from my pdoc every 3 months, mail it in, and get a 3-month supply all at once via FedEx, with no problem. Unless there's some complication with your insurance plan, you shouldn't have to do all that driving.
I should mention that my pdoc here in Texas just started doing this a few months ago (and said that he had only recently become aware that it was possible), so this may reflect a recent change in prescribing rules. But it's certainly possible, and legal.
