Didrex vs. Phentermine (Adipex) for ADD?

Posted by 3 Beer Effect on February 5, 2003, at 7:44:22

I usually take Dextrostat (d-amphetamine) 20 mg 2x per day as prescribed & it works great except for the 20-40 lb. weight loss. My main problem is that Dextrostat & Adderall & Focalin are very controversial, especially in adults (i'm a college student).

In fact through triplicate pescriptions, the DEA is subduing all of the 'ice' Adderall crystal dealers that stand on every street corner waiting to corrupt the youth. Watch out especially for that Ritalin crack b/c the 1st hits for free but the next is 20G.

All sarcasm aside, the DEA requires a triplicate prescription for Schedule II medications & only one month can be dispensed at a time. Since I have a doctor that follows the rules, I have to drive all the way back home to Dallas (3.5 hrs) once per month. Since my school 'THE University of Texas at Austin', seems to get more difficult with each new incoming, highly competitive freshman class, missing Friday classes to go to the doctor is affecting my grades.
Right now my stopgap solution for those times when I need a Dextrostat refill but can't make it back home because of the workload, I buy Didrex(benzphetamine) 50 mg tablets on the internet. Keep in mind that it is legal (except in Nevada)to order any Schedule III or IV diet pills on the internet ONLY IF it is a U.S. website, with a (joke of) a consultation with a U.S. doctor, & the med is dispensed by a U.S. pharmacy. [There may be a group of about 2-10 states where this practice is not legal, I think one of them was the colony 'Old Dominion' (Virginia). Check the DEA and/or the U.S. Customs website to be sure, & also check the statutes (if any) of your home state.

This is a really weird system in that I can legally buy the Schedule III N-Alkyl Amphetamine derivative 'Didrex', but you cannot purchase any schedule IV benzodiazepine/sedative through a legitimate U.S. website.

Anyways, as far as CNS/brain stimulation goes how do the other 'anorectics' rank against Dextrostat/Dexedrine or Adderall (mixed generic salts of what the heck kind of name for a generic is that?!) or Focalin/Ritalin?

At Wal-Mart I can buy No-Doz & Primatene Asthma Tablets (Ephedrine is an awful & dangerous drug but some people like it since it is cheap & legal 'speed' & the synthetic (USP) Ephedrine in Primatene or Bronkaid tablets is probably safer than the Ephedra found in the billion dollar selling herbal garbage weight loss products like Xenadrine & Metabolife.

I am looking for a psychostimulant of Schedule III or greater that enables you to read/study & take notes on really boring & complex material & stay up all night doing it. The choices I found are Didrex (Benzphetamine), Phentermine hcl (Adipex?), Tenuate (Diethylproprion), Phendimetrazine (Plegine), & Mazindol (Sanorex).

[Meridia=too expensive, Pemoline=impossible to find & sometimes turns your liver into one much like a 65 year old drunken wino w/ a paper bag for a coozie containing Thunderbird, Phenmetrazine (Predulin)=Schedule II even though milder than Ritalin but the Scandanavian Vikings went wacko & gobbled up Predulin by the barge-load!]

I don't know too much about chemistry but you can predict the effects from it by looking at the chemical structures. Anyone know how to do this? Interestingly, PHENTERMINE Hcl has the same chemical formula as the king of amphetamines/phenethylamines, the infamous Desoxyn (Methamphetamine Hcl) but does some weird criss cross thing. It does have a low molecular weight, what does that indicate, lipid solubility?
Didrex looks like it would be pretty cool but it has 2 of those hexagon things, which I think is bad? What chemistry features indicate easy passage thru the blood-brain barrier?-(I tried Desoxyephedrine Hcl (not the one from Abbott labs:) & didn't think it would be much different than intranasal prescription D-Amphetamine but it was a HUGE difference & was better than any medication i've ever tried in my life including the one that was popular for fatigue during the disco era & 1980s & is extracted from a leaf common to Bolivia & Peru.

I read somewhere that phendimetrazine is a pro-drug to phenmetrazine/Preludin- But I found a study on 'anorectics' that said the monkeys told the scientists that D-Amphetamine, Phenmetrazine, & Didrex were euphoric/positive reinforcers & the others were junk that they threw at gawking tourists.

By the way this 10 page essay was written after taking 100 mg of Didrex, & seems somewhat similar to D-Amph. So anyways, what is best as a psychostimulant & anti-fatigue remedy= Didrex, Phentermine, Tenuate/diethylproprion, mazindol/Sanorex, Plegline/phendimetrazine.

P.S.- Wellbutrin SR doesn't help me much at all.

Thanks,
