Hi Hank,

I take Zyprexa for paranoid schizophrenia.

The medication started helping after a few days, but it took a month or so to notice a big effect. First the paranoia went away, then the voices. I had to take off school for a semester and cut back my hours at work for a while. After about 3 months I was able to resume my normal work hours, then after about 6 months I started classes again. I still have some symptoms, but they are manageable provided I take my medication as prescribed and don't drink excessively.

As a control, I went unmedicated for 10 years and had symtoms the entire time. During that time I heard voices, thought the US Army was plotting against me and that a famous person had an elaborate surveillance network set up to watch me. The psychosis can last a very long time if left untreated, as I found out.
