I have no experience with Paxil CR, but are you sure you can't divide the pills? When I was taking Wellbutrin SR and wanted to try lower doses, the initial information I got was that you couldn't cut up the tablets, because the coating controlled the release. So, I called the company directly and talked to one of the people who developed the slow-release version. He said that the gradual release was due to the active ingredient being imbedded in a slowly-dissolving wax, and that dividing the pills was fine -- the release rate had nothing to do with the coating. He even faxed me detailed info on the pharmacokinetic profile of divided vs. whole pills. And sure enough, cutting up the pills was fine.

I have no idea whether this would apply to Paxil CR, but you might call the company and ask.
