Serzone and/or Effexor XR users

Posted by drm on November 20, 2002, at 11:16:05

Hello - I have just found this site after a mad search for side effects of Effexor XR. My husband has been on Serzone for about 4 years and his doctor wants him to switch to Effexor XR because of concerns(liver/kidneys)about him also taking Lipitor. He is on 75mg Serzone 2x a day. His Dr told him to start with 37.5mg of Effexor XR in place of his AM Serzone and continue with PM Serzone for a week. Yesterday was his 2nd day of Effexor and he had a bizarre episode last night. He said it seemed somewhat like a seizure - sweating profusely, that weird feeling in his head (brain zaps?), difficulty breathing, limbs jerking and inablity to speak or lift his head. He didn't actually pass out but was very close. I was hoping that some of you who had used these drugs before could let me know if you think it is strictly the Effexor or withdrawal from the Serzone (or both?). He is absolutely not going to take the Effexor again. I wonder if he should be more careful about the step down dose of the Serzone. Also I read on a thread here somewhere that Serzone should always be taken 2x a day because of the half-life. Any thoughts or suggestions you have will be greatly appreciated.
