I don't think it's necessarily correct to say that 20mg is the standard dose of Celexa. The Celexa prescribing info, available at Celexa.com, says that Celexa "should be administered at an initial dose of 20 mg once daily, generally with an increase to dose of 40 mg/day." Pharmrep, who works for the manufacturer, said in a post that notwithstanding the prescribing info, most family doctors prescribe 20 mg and most psychiatrists prescribe the higher dose.

Lexapro prescribing info, available at Lexapro.com, says "The recommended dose of Lexapro is 10 mg once daily. A fixed dose trial of Lexapro demonstrated the effectiveness of both 10 mg and 20 mg of Lexapro, but failed to demonstrate a greater benefit of 20 mg over 10 mg." Therefore, the manufacturer recommends 10 mg, not 5 mg. Everything about Lexapro, I'm sure you know, is controversial, at least on this board.

Were you taking Celexa before? If so, how much?

Myself, I wonder if one could scale back to 5mg as a maintenance dose after experiencing the benefits of a therapeutic dose for a few months.
