I have been on Remeron at 60mg for about 3 weeks and it's finally working effectively for me. I started at 15, then 30,45 and finally 60mg. At 60mg the drug seems to have more anti-depressant qualities and less sedation (and hunger!). I don't think it's very effective for depression until the dose is at least 45mg. At least that is my experience. In addition, I'm not as old as your father, yet I have a very low tolerance for most meds. This one has been the only one yet that has tolerable side-effects. good luck,
