Antipsychotics as antidepressants?

Posted by skills on June 28, 2002, at 10:49:08

Why if antipsychotics reduce dopamine release and act as seratonin antagonists due people use them for the treatment of depression. Surely such a reduction in mood chemicular release would aggravate depressive episodes. Antipsychotics prevent psychosis by reducing over stimulation of mood chemical receptors? I'm very confused. Peace
