I was also on Paxil for approx 3 years and gained about 20 lbs. I had side effects similar to yours including lack of sex drive, sedation, and the effects of the drug seemed to wear off after 6 months. It did help my social anxiety, but made me cranky and frustrated after it lost its effects. I am now taking Effexor XR and so far so good. It had some horrible side effects for the first couple of weeks, but now I am doing much better. My concentration is better and I am not feeling so hopeless anymore. I do think that Paxil is much better at controlling social anxiety, but Effexor isn't half bad. Battle through the intial side effects and after a couple of weeks you should start feeling better.
